Shift: Small Changes. Big Difference.

Sunday, February 5 through Sunday, March 18

Come worship with us as we discover small changes that add up to big differences in or lives. This sermon series and spiritual program will follow Jacob’s journey from personal conflict and struggle to trust, confidence, humility, and love.

Here's how the series works:

Each week of the series begins with a Sunday message from one of our pastors on a topic for that week. In addition to weekly messages, you will receive a workbook and a set of readings for further reflection. As an additional option, you are welcome to attend a small group for further discussion and sharing around each week's topic. Each small group will meet at a set time during the week, and there are a variety of meeting times and venues for you to choose from. Involvement in a small group is optional. You do not have to be part of a small group in order to benefit from the Sunday messages. February 5      A Shift in Awareness: Notice the conflicts

The Birth of Jacob and Esau; Striving over the birthright. Self-awareness. Using our heads. Thinking conflicts through.

February 12    A Shift in Perspective: Remember the Lord is here, now

Jacob’s dream. Living with the perspective that the Lord is always with us, and that He makes hopeful promises about our lives. Rising up one step at a time.

February 19    A Shift in Focus: Keep in mind who you want to be

Jacob Meets Rachel. Focusing on positive, inspiring, spiritual goals. Ideals that lead the way. Ongoing effort in worthwhile directions.

February 26    A Shift in Expectations: Have patience with the process

Jacob tricked into marrying Leah; Trouble having children. Recognizing that good things take time. Small steps in the right direction. Patience.

March 4           A Shift in Motivation: Recognize when it's time to make a change

Separating from Laban. Why we do the things we do. Mixed motives. Letting go of things that hold us back. Reaching for better motives.

March 11         A Shift in Confidence: Hold on through the wrestling

Jacob wrestles with an Angel; Jacob’s name changed to Israel. Dealing with anxiety. Placing our trust in the Lord. Things to “hold on to”.

March 18         A Shift in Heart: Show your love

Jacob reunited with Esau. Allowing the Lord to “gentle” our spirits. Humility. Love winning out in the end. A closeness to the Lord and others.
